10 Summer Tracks Perfect for the Pool or Beach

Summer is officially here! Let the season of pool parties and festivals commence.

In the spirit of happy days in the sun, here are ten tracks approved by your favorite MDA curators that would be perfect for hanging out at the pool or beach.

Hot Natured - Isis

Hot Natured is the electronic/alternative brainchild of Lee Foss and Jamie Jones. The duo has been joined by other like-minded producers over and the group played at premier festivals like CRSSD, Sonar, and Coachella over the years. On August 1, Lee Foss will be taking over La Cave to kick off MDA’s 10 Year Anniversary celebrations.

Télépopmusik - Breathe (Kartell Club Remix)

Télépopmusik’s track, Breathe, took the world by storm and has received a variety of amazing remixes over the years. Kartell put his signature on Breathe in 2017 with both a club and a slow remix. Kartell headlined The Wayfarer in Costa Mesa with Cherokee on April 28, 2017, which wasn’t too long after the remixes were released. Télépopmusik took the stage for MDA at Summer Home on March 25, 2018, and if I’m not mistaken, Télépopmusik played this track!

Birdee - I Can't Fight The Feeling (Roisto Remix)

Don’t you just love free downloads on Soundcloud? They don’t get much better than this remix from Roisto who hails from Finland. He is known to be a collector of records and vintage synths, and it shows through his unique brand of disco.

Lana Del Rey - West Coast (Zhu Remix)

The mysterious Zhu has unleashed an arsenal of high-quality collaborations, originals, and remixes ever since he emerged onto the scene. One of his lesser known remixes is of Lana Del Rey’s West Coast and it is perfect for summer playlists. If you haven’t seen Zhu’s amazing live performances yet, I highly recommend doing so soon. Good thing he added a second show in LA on his Dune Tour, so he will be playing on September 14th and 15th at The Shrine.

Le Youth - C O O L

Le Youth has a knack for using infectious samples and creative beats to craft unforgettably catchy tracks. C O O L is one of these tracks, and it made the crowd go crazy when Le Youth played it in his headlining set at The Wayfarer on December 22, 2017.

Poolside - Which Way to Paradise

Seriously, which way to paradise? On July 1, the way to paradise will be to Bolsa Chica State Beach as Poolside is set to close out a weekend of fun at Vestal Village. Their set is from 7:30-8:45pm as the sun goes down, which definitely sounds like paradise to me. Le Youth along with MDA DJs Daniel Minaya, Torosbros, and Mogli will be taking the stage as well so don’t miss out!

Mielo - All We’ve Lost

To me, this future bass track from Mielo just sounds like a beautiful summer day. Mielo took over Envy Lounge in Newport Beach on June 30 and it was definitely a summer night to remember.

RÜFÜS DU SOL - Sundream

RÜFÜS DU SOL hails from the land down under and their music puts smiles on peoples’ faces around the world. Just like Zhu, RÜFÜS DU SOL is so hot right now that the trio added a second show in LA this fall. They will be taking the stage on November 1 and 2 at The Shrine so don’t miss out!

Zhane' - Hey Mr. D.J. (LondonBridge Remix)

Space Yacht co-founder, LondonBridge, truly knows what it means to rock a dancefloor as evidenced by his performance at Envy Lounge in Newport Beach on May 25th of this year. His remix of the ever classic Hey Mr. D.J. is one in a long line of his dancefloor destroyers.

Detroit Swindle - Future Imperfect

The Dutch duo, Detroit Swindle, formed in 2011 and gained so much attention that they started their own label, Heist Recordings in 2013. Their DJ style is highly varied and shows their expertise as avid record collectors. I hope they make an appearance at an MDA event soon!

Honorable Mention: Darude - Sandstorm

Because Sandstorm is great for all occasions, especially on a sandy beach when it is windy.

All of these songs and more have been compiled into a Soundcloud playlist for your listening pleasure. A Night Out With Nora En Pure & Lee Foss

On December 15, I had the honor of attending the Nora En Pure and Lee Foss show at the legendary Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles, Calif. Personally, I Had only ever been to The Fonda to see rock bands, so I was very excited to see what a show with DJs would be like. The Fonda Theatre first opened in 1926 as the Carter DeHaven Music Box and has hosted many plays, movies, and musicians from The Rolling Stones to Justice. Over the years, it has seen periods of closure and many changes of ownership and name before settling on The Fonda Theatre by Goldenvoice in 2012. The name is in honor of stage and film actor, Henry Fonda. In 2015, LA Weekly named The Fonda the top music venue in Los Angeles, and Friday night's show proved that the title was well earned.

Right when I walked through the doors into the lobby on Friday, it was obvious that the venue was perfect for the music that was waiting for us just inside the inner doors. You feel like you've traveled back in time to a Roaring Twenties era theater with the combination of mood lighting and decor. The older style of the venue and the sounds of today with Nora En Pure and Lee Foss was truly a beautiful combination showing that opposites do attract.

We arrived in time to catch the last half of the opening DJ's set who built up the energy perfectly before handing the decks over to Lee Foss. Chicago native, Lee Foss dove into electronic music after befriending Jamie Jones in Ibiza in the early 2000s. Their friendship and later partnership with Richy Ahmed gave birth to their label, Hot Creations, as well as their band, Hot Natured, with Infinity Ink. Knowing how well respected Lee Foss is in the house music community and his work with his label, I was very excited to see him perform DJ set. He showed the crowd his musical taste by playing tracks such as Hiding by Icarus and Darius Syrossian remix of Claptone's The Music Got Me. He also showcased his original productions from his Electricity EP with MK and his own album, Alchemy. The place went off when he played Drifting, which is one of my personal favorite tunes by Lee Foss. After an hour and a half set of pure good times, Nora En Pure took over.

Nora En Pure first burst into the scene with Come With Me in 2013 and has consistently released quality tunes such as Saltwater and her remix of Jubel by Klingade. Her Conquer Yosemite EP was released earlier in 2017 and showcase her skills as a producer, as well as her love for piano. If you haven't had a listen yet, I highly recommend it. Nora En Pure's groovy house sounds paired perfectly with the vibes Lee Foss set, combined to be a night that not just house music lovers would enjoy, but lovers of music in general. She showcased many of her original productions, but I think the set reached a climax when she played True. The bassline is so groovy and showed the quality of The Fonda's sounds system which is certainly a force to be reckoned with. Friday night was my first time seeing Nora En Pure play, and I don't think it will be the last.

Overall, the show was expertly curated by Goldenvoice and was help in an amazing historic venue. Lee Foss and Nora En Pure proved why they are considered such masters of their craft during their respective sets. If you get a chance to check out a set from either of them, don't miss it. I will definitely be looking into more shows at The Fonda.

Until next time Ambassadors, keep those antlers up.
